The International Financial Inclusion Conference (IFIC) Nigeria’s flagship Financial Inclusion event is scheduled to hold on the 5th & 6th of October 2023 at the Landmark Event Center, Lagos.

Hosted by the National Financial Inclusion Governance Committees, IFIC is an engagement platform for financial services providers, regulators, development partners and other financial inclusion stakeholders to discuss contemporary developments, identify challenges and proffer solutions to ensure a more inclusive financial system. The maiden IFIC 2022 spotlighted Nigeria’s achievements since the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) was first launched in 2012. It focused on scaling innovative digital models spurred by the fast-evolving financial services landscape, highlighting targeted out-of-the-box approaches to advance financial inclusion in Africa and globally. A diverse range of topics were explored including digital identity, gender-inclusive finance, digital infrastructure for financial services, fostering public-private partnerships and much more. It featured over 5,000 participants from 78 countries and 50 speakers.

IFIC 2023, themed “Financial Inclusion for All: Global Insights for Local Impact”, leverages the success of the 2022 edition to sustain a national commitment to the revised NFIS, complement global advocacy efforts on persistent barriers to financial inclusion and galvanize action to accelerate progress. Whilst there has been some advancement in global financial inclusion (growth in digital ID, account and wallet ownership, financial access points, etc) driven by the rising use of digital financial services, exclusion still persists in certain segments and particularly on the African Continent. Nigeria with its dynamic and growing payments and financial system has implemented its financial inclusion strategy implementation with varying degrees of success across target segments. Therefore, reviewing global efforts at closing the inclusion gap and the local idiosyncratic evolution of emerging platforms and providers such as fintech provides a rich tapestry of winning strategies that can be leveraged across the Continent to sustainably scale financial inclusion.

The conference uncovers these diverse perspectives and lessons learned from financial inclusion strategy implementation and within innovative ecosystems domestically, articulating insights for local implementation and impact. Through well-curated plenaries, panels, and breakout sessions, participants will hear from prominent global speakers, thought and industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and start-ups disrupting the financial industry. Key topics to be explored include fintech-driven last mile solutions, leveraging big data and artificial intelligence, inclusive product innovation (non-interest finance), leveraging payment systems to scale financial inclusion in excluded segments - women, rural, youth and MSMEs, Consumer protection, fraud and data privacy, etc.

IFIC 2023 also features exciting activities on the sidelines such as Innovation Labs (exhibitions of groundbreaking financial solutions for inclusion), the Financial Inclusion Awards, side events for start-ups, tech companies, financial/payment services providers, and a wide array of stakeholders in the financial inclusion space. Overall, the conference promises to be an insightful and engaging platform for networking with a vibrant and globally diverse Whova community and an eclectic mix of offerings to enrich participants’ in-person and/or virtual experience.
